Great news! Tabiya Okaeri – Ehime & Kochi Edition, which was filmed in Uchiko Town back in November 2021, is getting a rebroadcast on NHK General TV at 8:15 AM on Monday, October 10 (a holiday)!
I can’t believe it’s already been a year since filming—time really flies!
Filming Locations & Behind-the-Scenes Memories
The shoot took place at several stunning locations:
・Odamiyama Gorge, where we captured the breathtaking autumn leaves
・Yokaichi Gokoku in Uchiko Town, where the protagonist took a stroll
・Ikazaki Shachu, where the process of making Ozu washi paper was filmed
・Uchiko-za, which served as both a filming location and a press conference venue
I remember watching the scenes unfold from early morning, experiencing both hot weather (in short sleeves) and chilly weather (bundled up in a down jacket)!
A Special Moment on Set
One of the most memorable moments was during filming in Yokaichi Gokoku. After wrapping up a scene, the entire crew walked together to the next location instead of taking cars—a rare opportunity since cast members usually travel separately.
I took advantage of the walk to chat with the staff, snap some commemorative photos, and admire the beautiful plaster art on the buildings.
Training for the Washi Paper Scene
At Ikazaki Shachu, the preparations started early in the morning. The cast received training on how to make Ozu washi paper, carefully practicing the movements until they perfected them for the actual take.
The cast even browsed Ozu washi products in the shop next door between scenes, clearly fascinated by the craftsmanship!
